Rental Property Safety

Do you inform your renters about safety?  It may not be your responsibility, but it is certainly a good idea to keep your renters informed.  Should a crime happen on your property, you may to deal with legal issues, insurance, or re-renting your property.  A little education on safety can go a long way toward keeping your rental and tenants out of harm.

Here are a few ideas to get you started.  Publish a list of tips on safety that tenants can read and talk about.  Consider posting it in a common area of the rental.   I came across this site today with lots of good safety tips for renters

Keep your tenants up to date on any criminal activity in the area that they may want to use caution about. 

Also, make sure your rental is up to par with fire and safety issues like new door locks, working locks on windows, providing fire extinguishers and keeping access to the exits clear.

Start now on developing a long history of a safe rental property.
