Washing Machine Repair

Several weeks ago, our clothes dryer broke and now our washing machine is not working. The drum inside the machine did not rotate and the water would not drain. I checked the hoses in the back to make sure they were clear and there did not seem to be anything blocking the drum. So, I had to call a repairman in to fix it. In a few minutes, this guy had the whole cover off the machine, tilted it backwards, reached underneath and unscrewed a small plastic part off. He replaced the part, put the machine back together and I was down about $150.Â

Unlike my dryer problem, I don’t think I would have been able to fix this myself, at least without wasting a whole day. I asked the repairman why the part broke and he said it could have just worn out, or there may have been a lot of big loads.

Washing machine repairs are very common with rental properties, so be prepared to deal with the costs of repairs, or replacing a machine when it gets older. Make sure your tenants know how to properly work the machine so it does not get overworked.
